Liverpool Philharmonic Highly Commended for Outstanding Contribution to National Get Creative Family Arts Festival

The accolade recognises Liverpool Philharmonic's concerts and events for children and families.

The annual Get Creative Family Arts Festival is a national festival offering families an extraordinary range of arts activities to enjoy right across the UK. Voted for by a panel of expert judges from the arts sector, the Commendations recognise the outstanding events that took during 2016 and the exemplary family-friendly organisations and venues that participated.

Liverpool Philharmonic joined 736 other organisations in delivering family 4,000 events held across the UK attended by more than 500,000 family members.

Liverpool Philharmonic's events for children and families includes a Family Concerts Series, performed by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra at their home, Liverpool Philharmonic Hall. Designed by presenter and deviser Alasdair Malloy the concerts feature classical repertoire and songs from TV, film and stage shows.

The series also features film screenings with live orchestra, most recently, Home Alone, Wizard of Oz and the animation Peter and the Wolf and E.T. The Extra-Terrestial. 30 minutes before the concert, children can meet Liverpool Philharmonic musicians and try out different instruments at the ‘Instrument Petting Zoo.’

Liverpool Philharmonic has also introduced a family concert series designed especially for the under-5s and performed in the smaller-scale, Music Room at the Hall. This series builds on the relationships established with family audiences through the variety of music workshops Liverpool Philharmonic offers for children aged 0-5 years.

There are also specially designed children’s tours of Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and Orchestra Explorer's Club members (membership is for free!) can enjoy special post-concert celebrations for all the family with themed treats, instrument petting zoo and the chance to meet Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra musicians following concerts.

Michael Eakin, Liverpool Philharmonic’s Chief Executive said: “Our concerts and events for children, young people and families offer a great introduction to experiencing the sights and sounds of a full symphony orchestra, all performed in the fantastic setting of Liverpool Philharmonic Hall. For many it can be the beginning of what becomes a life-long passion for music. We’re delighted to be Highly Commended in the Get Creative Family Arts Festival, an initiative of the National Family Arts Campaign, and pleased to champion the work they do, with the support of Arts Council England, to increase the amount and range of high quality arts available across the country for family audiences.”
