Music by Vivaldi, Telemann, Handel, Biber, Byrd and Mielczewski and Hungarian folk melodies.

They called him the Red Priest – but you probably know him better as Antonio Vivaldi. Led by “superhuman” recorder player Piers Adams, “baroque supergroup” Red Priest puts the fire back into the baroque, making every performance into a carnival. Tonight, it’s all about the gypsy spirit, with wild, folk-inspired music by Telemann, Handel and of course Vivaldi himself. If you’ve heard them before (they sold out last season), you won’t need telling twice: they’re hot stuff!

Purists would probably run a mile from what Red Priest does to this music, but virtuosity, verve and creative spontaneity are fused together in a way that makes the impact positively volcanic.
