Thursday 2 February - Post-concert Question Time (starts 15 mins after the concert in Music Room) - Pianist Daniil Trifonov and Chief Conductor Vasily Petrenko.

Thursday 2 February, 6pm - Join us for a free pre-concert performance of new works in the Music Room from Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Ensembles.

Forged in the crucible of war and premiered to the sound of gunfire, Prokofiev’s massive Fifth symphony is dedicated to “the greatness of the human spirit”. Sounds ambitious? Vasily Petrenko and the full Orchestra will make it catch fire. And if you only know Rachmaninov’s second and third piano concertos, just wait until you hear the Tchaikovsky Competition winning Daniil Trifonov in the Fourth: the closest Rachmaninov ever came to jazz. Stravinsky’s brilliant card-trick of a ballet launches an evening of high stakes and glittering prizes.

Make sure you catch this rare opportunity to witness this Russian superstar in his only UK appearance outside London this season.
