Key Stage 2 and 3 Concerts

The World in One City: A Musical Journey

In partnership with National Museums Liverpool

Fancy a trip around the globe?

Join presenter Alasdair Malloy, conductor Matthew Lynch and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra on an epic musical journey.

Different countries, different cultures – music is a gateway to it all. In this concert, the Orchestra will use music to help us discover the history and traditions of communities around the world – as well as those a little closer to home here in Liverpool! Exploring geography and identity, we will also learn about the important role music plays in shaping a sense of home and self for individuals around the globe.

Scheme of Work

With your booking, you will receive a free scheme of work written specifically for Key Stages 2 and 3 that explores the concert theme and content. It contains eight individual lessons that can be delivered in the classroom by the class teacher, alongside recordings of some of the repertoire (specially recorded by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra) and additional resources to support the lessons. It will also introduce the performers and provide relevant background information to prepare for your visit.

The Key Stage 2 and 3 scheme of work also includes resources to support the teaching and learning of our specially commissioned song, which the children will sing in the concerts. This will include a video demonstrating the British Sign Language interpretation of the song to teach in the classroom.

The scheme of work allows learners to develop knowledge and skills linked to the National Curriculum and will enhance their experience at the concert. Lessons will be adaptable and differentiated to suit all abilities.
“The scheme of work was varied and engaging, with activities for all types of learners and additional learning suggestions that covered multiple subjects.” – Primary Teacher, Key Stage 2 Schools’ Concerts 2024

We will publish the scheme of work in the months prior to the concerts. It will be emailed to all current bookers at the time of publication.
