Sheku Kanneh-Mason cello
Needing no introduction to our audience, cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason (who memorably performed at the royal wedding of Meghan and Prince Harry) brings us Dvořák’s nostalgic cello concerto. Homesick in America and hearing that his wife’s sister - and also his first love - was seriously ill, Dvořák poured his heart and soul into a new piece for the cello. Full of personal touches and meanings he created one of the most beloved of all concertos. In contrast, to open, Carl Maria von Weber delivers a delicious classical symphonic bonbon.
The concert will be available to watch from 7pm on Tuesday 2 February, preceded by a live preconcert talk on Zoom at 7pm with BBC Radio 3 broadcaster and author Stephen Johnson, and a post-concert Zoom q and a session with oboist Jonathan Small, arranger George Morton and conductor Andrew Manze in a sort of ‘post match analysis’, where you can ask questions and participate. Further information on how to join the Zoom will be sent to you after you purchase a ticket. You can watch the video at any point without the Zoom element. Please note this on demand video will only be available for 14 days from the date of initial broadcast.
