Matthew Hamilton was appointed Director of Choirs and Singing at Royal Liverpool Philharmonic in 2023.

Alongside his work in Liverpool, Matthew is also Choral Director at The Hallé, a role he has held since 2015. There he has been involved in large scale choral projects, acclaimed recordings and broadcasts both with the Hallé and BBC Philharmonic, and performances across the UK and abroad.

Matthew is particularly in demand as a director of symphonic choruses, preparing choirs for conductors including Gustavo Dudamel, Sir Mark Elder, Edward Gardner, Valery Gergiev, Daniel Harding, Domingo Hindoyan, Fabio Luisi, Michael Tilson Thomas, Andris Nelsons, Gianandrea Noseda, and Kahchun Wong, and for festivals including Edinburgh International Festival, St Magnus Festival, Manchester International Festival, Brighton Festival, Spitalfields Festival, and BBC Proms, where he has worked on music from Birtwistle to the Pet Shop Boys.
