We have several different choirs and orchestras, made up of people from across our City Region, of all backgrounds and expertise.
There are also opportunities for young composers to progress their work with the support of Liverpool Philharmonic.

Instrumentalists
If you are aged 13-21, working at grade 7+ level on an orchestral instrument (flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, french horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, percussion, harp, violin, viola, cello and double bass) Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra may be for you!

Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Academy Orchestra is an ambitious full symphony orchestra for young musicians up to the age of 18, working at grades 4-7 level on an orchestral instrument.
We are looking to recruit talented young musicians who want to experience working in a large ensemble with other creative, like-minded musicians. You will be part of an exciting community of young creatives working on incredible pieces of orchestral repertoire. High quality performance opportunities will be at the heart of the orchestra, with frequent performances at Liverpool’s iconic concert venue, Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.
As a musician in the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Academy Orchestra, you will develop your individual and ensemble performance skills in an exciting and fun symphony orchestra,. You will rehearse and perform alongside your peers, coached and conducted by some of the UK’s top professional musicians from Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, and supported by musicians from Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. This ensemble will help you to develop greater confidence, both socially and musically, and you will make new friendships with young musicians from across the region.
Rehearsals for Youth Academy Orchestra will take place on Sunday evenings during term time. Rehearsals for the 2021/22 season will start from mid-October, and we will be working towards two large scale performances across the year on the main stage at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.
Academy Orchestra members will be part of Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company; membership entitles you to other Youth Company activities including workshops and masterclasses with world-class musicians, discounted tickets and many more music making opportunities.

Children at Grade 2 level and above on a string, woodwind, brass or percussion instrument - this ensemble is for you! Led by Liverpool Philharmonic musicians, rehearsals take place at Bellerive FCJ Catholic College (Tuesdays from 4.15pm) or Notre Dame Catholic College (Thursdays from 4.15). Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company is recruiting talented brass and percussion players, aged 13-21, to join a brand new weekly ensemble: Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Brass Band.
You will collaborate with other like-minded, passionate musicians to bring a range of exciting, multi-genre brass band repertoire to the stage.
Led by Simon Cowen, one of the region’s top brass band music directors and Section Leader Trombone with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, you will perform in thrilling concerts throughout the year including at least two performances at Liverpool’s iconic concert venue, Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.
Youth Brass Band musicians will be part of a network of the most talented young creatives from across Liverpool and Merseyside through Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company, and your creative ideas will form an integral part of the ensemble’s artistic activity.
Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Brass Band will rehearse on Wednesday evenings during term time.
Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company membership entitles you to other Youth Company activities including workshops and masterclasses with world-class musicians, discounted tickets and more.

Jazz and Pop musicians
Are you an aspiring jazz or pop musician aged 13 – 21? Join the new Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Session Orchestra, launching in January.
We are looking for committed jazz and pop musicians aged 13 – 21 who are passionate about playing a range of styles and great music to join the brand new Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Session Orchestra.

Singers
Founded in 1840, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Choir is open by audition to anyone aged 18+ who can read music and sight-sing. There are up to 60 rehearsals during the year on Monday evenings and a number of performances each year at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.
Applications are collected throughout the year and auditions are arranged every few months. We are especially interested in recruiting more tenor and bass voices. For more information, click here.
Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Choir is for singers aged 12-19. The choir regularly performs with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir for concerts at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall. It is open to all voice types: soprano, alto, treble (unchanged boys voices), tenor and bass.

An excellent introduction to choral singing for children in school years 5, 6 and 7. This is a very popular group, and we maintain a waiting list to join in September and January. Composers and Songwriters
This scheme offers young composers the chance to develop their composing skills by writing music for performance by their peers. The composers, aged 14 to 18, work with mentors to write music for instrumentalists and singers from Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company. This scheme is open to members of Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company. For more information, click here.
This prize is designed to support composers between 18 - 30 years old who currently live, work, were born in the North West of England, or are a current registered student at a North West based Higher Education institution.
Each year, one composer receives a cash prize of £1,000 and the opportunity to develop their talent and access a wide range of support and guidance from across the music profession.
