Kurt Schwertsik Schrumpf-Symphonie op. 80
Schubert Symphony No.9 ‘The Great’
Kevin John Edusei conductor
For his debut with the Orchestra, Kevin John Edusei brings us two Viennese composers from very different eras. Maverick Kurt Schwertsik’s engaging music is laced with wry humour. ‘Schrumpf’ means shrunken and that is exactly what it is - a miniature symphony. Schubert’s Ninth Symphony is quite the opposite. Discovered by Robert Schumann ten years after Schubert’s death he famously described it as having a “heavenly length”. It is monumental in scale, a roller-coaster of rhythmical energy and lyricism that leaves you exhilarated.
Please note the capacity is very limited (c. 330 seats total) and seating will be done on a socially distanced (2 metre) basis. To book single tickets please call the Box Office on 0151 709 3789.
