Under the blue skies of 1950s San Francisco, James Stewart becomes obsessed with a mysterious woman – and obsession, as he’s about to find out, can be deadly. Film critics recently voted Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo the best film ever made, and Bernard Herrmann’s mesmerising score is one of the greatest of all movie soundtracks. Vertigo is 60 years old this year, so for this one-off screening, Herrmann’s music is performed live by the full Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. It’s never sounded more vivid – or more gripping. Just don’t look down...
