Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company comprises of Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and Youth Choir. We are now recruiting talented young musicians and singers from in and around Liverpool, and across the North West for Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and Choir.
Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (for musicians aged 13-23) performs at the highest standard in concerts at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and across the UK. Young musicians perform exciting music led by Liverpool Philharmonic’s inspirational Youth Ensembles Artistic Director, Simon Emery, attend rehearsals led by musicians from Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, perform side-by-side with the Orchestra and work with Chief Conductor Vasily Petrenko and visiting guest conductors. They can attend workshops and master classes with internationally renowned visiting artists, and have the opportunity to perform a concerto as a soloist with the Youth Orchestra.
Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Choir (for singers aged 13 – 18) performs at the highest standard with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir in high-profile concerts and special events, including premieres of new music.
They sing a wide variety of musical styles including classical, jazz, folk, and world music. The Youth Choir has been recognised as one of the top choirs at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod, and Artistic Director, Simon Emery, has been awarded the prize as ‘Most Inspiring Conductor.’ The Youth Choir has performed for Liverpool Philharmonic’s Patron HM The Queen, and they sang at the Closing Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
An added benefit of joining either the Youth Orchestra or Choir is access to Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company activities and opportunities. These are led by music industry professionals and enable young people to develop their creative, performance and leadership skills to equip them to work in the music industry. Most recently, members have benefited from masterclasses led by violinists Nicola Benedetti and James Ehnes, conductor Andrew Manze and conductor and trombonist Christian Lindberg.
The Youth Company also provides opportunities for young people play in ensembles such as Liverpool Philharmonic Big Band, Brass Band and chamber music groups. The annual Music Industry Careers Day features inspirational speakers from across the national and international music business.
Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company members say:
‘Get involved in as much as you can, it isn't just simply a choir and an orchestra, it offers you so much more and if you take advantage of that, your experience will be all the more rewarding.’
‘I would thoroughly recommend being involved. I have really gained in confidence this year. I was reluctant to join because I felt so nervous and did not think I was good enough. It has been fantastic to work with such a supportive, friendly group.’
