Beethoven titled the first movement of his Pastoral Symphony ‘Awakening of happy emotions upon arriving in the countryside’ – and everyone knows that feeling! So this afternoon, it’s time to escape to the country. Shepherds sing on Beethoven’s sun-kissed hillsides, Vaughan Williams’s Lark soars ever higher into the blue Cotswold skies, and Rossini unleashes a refreshing summer storm. We also welcome back one of Europe’s hottest young baritones to perform the songs of Schubert – each one a little universe of emotion.
