ROYAL LIVERPOOL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA

Beethoven's Third Piano Concerto

Li Huanzhi: Spring Festival Overture
Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 3
Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 5

Long Yu: conductor
Stephen Hough: piano

Classic Intro 6.15pm (Music Room)- Stephen Johnson introduces us to the Beethoven’s Piano Concertos 3 - 5, prior to Stephen Hough’s performances. Stephen broadcasts regularly for BBC Radio 3, 4 and the World Service, and presents Radio 3’s Discovering Music.

Post-Concert Question Time- Starts 15 minutes after the concert ends (Music Room) with Stephen Hough.

“With passion and desire”. That’s what Tchaikovsky wrote on the score of his Fifth Symphony, and he wasn’t kidding – this is some of the most heartfelt, most ardent and most tuneful music he ever wrote. It’ll make a blockbuster Liverpool debut for China’s leading conductor, Long Yu, and the perfect complement to Stephen Hough’s very personal take on Beethoven’s darkest piano concerto. And have a listen to Li Huanzhi’s Spring Festival Overture: bright, lively and hardly known in the West, we think it’s a popular classic just waiting to be discovered!
