The National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine (NSOU) has long been one of the most distinguished orchestras in Europe and has achieved world-wide recognition through its many international appearances, including acclaimed tours of Australia, the US, Europe and Asia.

In Autumn 2023, the NSOU will embark on a major tour of the UK – their biggest tour of the country to date and the first time they have performed here in 22 years.

Of course, their visit to the UK will be a particularly significant cultural event, following the tragic invasion of Ukraine by Russia and the ongoing war. There has been tremendous support given to the people of Ukraine militarily, politically and culturally since the invasion began but, with hostilities expected to continue for some time, it is vital that we maintain our support of the nation’s rich, musical culture.

Conducted by their music director Volodymyr Sirenko, the NSOU bring a beautifully poignant programme to Liverpool Philharmonic Hall. They’ll perform Bruch’s poetic Violin Concerto No.1 alongside the distinguished Ukrainian violinist Aleksey Semenenko, the exuberant Don Juan by Richard Strauss, Liszt’s Mazeppa – a work inspired by a Ukrainian folk hero of the same name – and Grazhyna Symphonic Picture by ‘the father of Ukrainian contemporary music’, Boris Lyatoshynsky.
